Alex MacDowall stormed into P3 with a best time of 1:23.782s in today's qualifying session at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, ahead of tomorrow's three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races.
In only his second race outing with the Silverline Chevrolet Cruze, Alex has impressed all with the lap time that placed him ahead of teammate, Jason.
Alex enthralled: "It was definitely the best qualifying I've ever had. The car was just awesome towards the end. We made a few setup changes and it just came together. I thought the first fast time I set was going to be hard to beat, but we managed it."
And on his thoughts for tomorrow's first race, Alex adds, "I'm pleased to be up there (on the second row of the grid), but it's going to be tough so I just need to keep a cool head and get a good race."
In the sister Chevrolet Cruze, Jason had looked a strong contender for pole position, having set the fastest lap of the session on his first flying lap in the early stages, however waved yellow flags in the closing minutes jeopardized any chance of the drivers' improving their times.
Jason finished the session in 5th place and commented: "We haven't found the sweet spot of the car yet. We set a good time for FP2, which we were looking to improve on for qualifying, but we've since lost a bit of front grip. However we've got a lot of beneficial data now, so will work on our strategy for the first race tomorrow."
